'What is the Internet?'

I saw this clip this morning on the Today Show circa 1994. Hysterical. Seriously.

Watching Katie Couric and Bryant Gumbel try to explain the "@" symbol, which by the way Couric first says is called the "about" symbol, is beyond funny and scary when you think about how fast and furious things have changed since then.  I wish I could post the video directly but until I find code for one, click here.

Commodities, sch-mmodities

VegCorn.jpgI read this disturbing article Sunday morning about how the price of commodities (you know, things like corn, cotton, wheat and coffee) are going up and so, in turn, are our grocery bills.

I don't know about you, but I honestly never thought I would read a story in the Wall Street Journal from start to finish about commodities, but when I found out that retail food prices are expected to rise between 3% and 4.5% this year I had no choice but to take notice.

Red-rum, red-rum!

I've gotta be honest with ya, I'm seriously developing cabin fever "The Shining" style. It's getting dicey over at our apartment.

Redneck nuptials: 'I do' to a five-gun salute

Sorry I've been so MIA lately. It's really been busy around here and with it reaching -12 this morning in Pittsfield, we're all moving just a tad bit slower these days.

But I just had to tell you all that my all-time favorite wedding show is back on the air for its fourth season, My Big Redneck Wedding on CMT.

Best dressed, by far

Now that I've chipped my way out from under the two inches of ice we got hit with yesterday, I can take a moment to address an important world issue that has been on every news program since Sunday: Golden Globes fashion.

Specifically the Armani Prive pink sequence number my fav Anne Hathaway was wearing.

Stop itching and start applying

In light of our second snow dump on the Northeast in a matter of weeks I thought I'd take this time to share with you some of my most highly recommended, Lindsey-tested skin products for cold dry weather like today.

I've struggled with dry skin for years. I've even by diagnosed with eczema and given medicated creams. None ever seemed to do more than make my skin bright red and burn.

So after years of buying, trying and throwing out over-the-counter remedies, I've found a few soaps and lotions that together seem to do the trick.

The long-awaited pajama jeans

It's true, the long-awaited pajama jeans have finally landed on my doorstep.

What started out has a healthy curiosity after seeing an hour-long infomercial selling these Mom-jean look-a-likes has now turned in to a religion for me.

My name is Lindsey Hollenbaugh, and I wear pajama jeans.

You know the drill.

*As an add-on to this column, recent developments are pointing at Pittsfield and the Berkshires getting 15 inches of snow on Wednesday...lovely.

Oldies, but goodies

It's official. It's winter. There's snow. No one wants to go outside, but you're bored cooped up inside. Maybe you're not at "The Shining" status of cabin fever, but you feel you might be getting pretty close.

This, of course, is why God invented Netflix.

But even that can get old. How many horrible romantic comedies can you watch in one month before you begin to question humanity, and Matthew Mcconaughey's acting ability. (Still no reason to ignore his clear talent in the countless shirtless scenes... just sayin'.)

Sometimes, you've gotta mix it up.

Introducing my NookColor

NOOKcolor home screen.jpgIt's official, I've been converted to an e-reader.

I know, I know. I once considered it crossing over to the darkside, but the guy knew how much I would love it and went ahead and bought me one for Christmas anyway.

I'm now the proud owner of a Barnes and Noble NookColor. Not only can I purchase, download and read books without ever leaving the comfort of my couch, but I can also stop the endless pile of unread magazines from stacking up on our coffee table.

One of the best things about the new and improved Nook is that magazine subscriptions are available at a cheaper price and promise to put you a step closer to having less clutter.

You're still the one (or the new one)

Shania_Twain_Portrait.jpg
It's hard to believe that Shania Twain is even still around (I mean I love the gal, but when is the last time she was on the charts?) but she's back and in white.

According to People.com, Twain married Frédéric Thiébaud (some Swiss businessman let's assume she calls by yelling "hey you!") in Puerto Rico on New Year's Day.

Only one picture has surfaced so far, but I'll be keeping an eye out for more glam pics of the newlyweds. The giant veil is not quite my style and I always thought black was an odd wedding color, but her clean lines and timeless beauty (with a hint of country, of course) has always caught my eye.

Here's to hoping this works out better than that "Mutt" guy. No really, that was his name...
