Mercy Sunday

I've been covering Mercy Sunday for about 12 years now, and it's always an interesting afternoon. This year there were about 12,000 to 13,000 people, which means the campus at Eden Hill in Stockbridge was packed. One of the things that always impresses me is how delicate the security people have to be. The thing is, everybody wants to get closer. Which is understandable. But with 13,000 or so people, there has to be some kind of order. Especially 13,000 people who want to get right up front. It's like a rock concert. So these security guys have to be firm, but gentle. And believe me, there are people at Mercy Sunday who do not like to take "no" for an answer. They're gonna see the Bishop if it kills them. I think it's not easy being a security person at Mercy Sunday.
