Pats Predictions

On Saturday, the Patriots go for history. And while the Eagle staff is unanimous in its believe that the Patriots will finish 16-0, how much history the team accomplishes is up for debate. We'll offer our postseason prognostications all through the playoffs, starting with the one game that the entire country will be watching on Saturday night.

Patriots 45-13 — Tom Brady gets his record early and Randy Moss falls short (he should never be listed ahead of the GOAT in anything). New England plays its starters for three quarters despite a 28-point halftime lead, prompting more cries of poor sportsmanship. In actuality, New England’s treating this like the third, and most important, exhibition of the preseason, when starters play the most to prepare for the season opener.

Patriots 49, Giants 16 — Brady to Moss twice to break records. Brady doesn’t start a drive in the fourth quarter — per usual in blowouts. The Giants sit most of their good players, but the younger ones do OK since the Pats have little game-tape on any of the Giants that play.
-- Matt Martinelli

Patriots 30, Giants 14 — The Patriots are not going to mess this perfection thing up now, especially with the Giants most likely going to sit some starters during the game in preparation for a wild-card playoff game next weekend. Brady, Maroney, Moss, Stallworth, Welker and Gaffney — how do you stop these guys?
-- Rich Fyle

Giants 21, Patriots 14. Y.A. Title throws a touchdown pass to Joe Morrison with a minute left in the fourth quarter. Oops, my bad.
Make it Patriots 38, Giants 10. Does anybody think that Jared Lorenzen, the Hefty Lefty backup QB for the Giants has a chance to do anything against the Patriots? Remember, Eli Manning probably isn’t going to play the whole game. And now with the entire nation watching on TV, Bill Belichick isn’t going to pass up this opportunity to score lots of points.

Basketball Update

Well, the Gene Wein Holiday Tournament held at Drury was such a doozy that they couldn't get the scores in by deadline. Fortunately, we're here on the blog to take care of you. Consider it a Christmas gift. The teams certainly gave the fans a present.

Wahconah beat Monument 60-56 in the championship game, a matchup that was so evenly and well-played that Drury coach John Franzoni said it could be a preview of a Western Mass. final.

Drury, meanwhile, fell 45-42 to Commerce. The Blue Devils fell behind 32-31 and never caught back up, despite never trailing by more than three. Drury, which is playing without Megan Boyer for the foreseeable future, got 29 points from Taylor DeSanty, but even her effort couldn't get the Blue Devils their first win of the year.

The all-tournament team consists of MVP Aliah Curry of Wahconah, Jamy Ferris of Wahconah, Alyssa Nejaime and Mare McCormick of Monument, DeSanty and Commerce's Angie Couyoute.
