sweater vests and speculation
On last night's episode of "House," both Dr. Chase (played by Jesse Spencer) and Dr. Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard) were sporting sweater vests -- often, both characters go for weeks hidden under their white lab coats, but last night each had at least one scene to show off his dapper duds.
Interestingly, the two characters are currently tied in the "most likely to betray House" race. See, House crossed the line a few episodes back, but he picked the wrong person: a police officer (played by David Morse) who's now trying to pin drug charges on the Vicodin-addicted doctor. And he's squeezing everyone around House -- freezing bank accounts, digging up dirty secrets -- to get one of them to turn him in.
Chase has already done so, in Season One. He ratted House out to the hospital's new head honcho in exchange for job security. So I figured it would be too obvious to have Chase play the rat this time.
And Wilson is House's best friend, though recent events have put a more-than-significant strain on that relationship. It would be a great dramatic device to have Wilson betray him. Too great. One of those "so shocking it's not shocking at all" situations.
But last night's drama has me second-guessing both my theories. And a few others, as well. Chase had a disagreement with House -- who, irritable from Vicodin withdrawal, punched him -- and seemed ready to run to the officer. But then, right at the end, Wilson met with the cop and said, "I'll need 30 pieces of silver." And the preview for the next eppie involved House being ordered into rehab.
So. Will it be Chase? Will it be Wilson? Will it be the two of them, working together somehow in a sweater-vest alliance? Or will it be someone else, in which case the wardrobe decision was deliberately designed to mislead?
Well, I have to wait two whole weeks before I can find out. Curse you, Fox!
