Planting the Boxwood

August 8, 2006. I am getting around to planting the last of the three rescued plants that my Dad gave me. Oh. BTW did I tell you that my parents (Rose and Bernie) were over for dinner? No? Well yes. And of course my Mom brought dinner, soda (I had Gunniss) and salad. We had a good time. Ate up on the deck overlooking the yard (or the JUNGLE as my Mom calls it).
- Bernie you should cut some of this down.
- But what would the fun be in that.

Anyway here is the Boxwood planting sequence:

I'm planting this at the end of another spiral off the front path. In the early-summer this area is where all the Daisies grow. The green bush with the Daisies around it should look nice.

Again I am using a "double-dug" method to prepare the planting area.

Looks good (nice plant).

Then I went up on the deck for some other shots...

- Baby.
- Are you alive?
- Good you are breathing.
...dog.

Blue haze

Here are some photos of the blue Corn Flowers around August 3, 2006.

These flowers can be seen along many country roads and highways in our area.

The growth concentration here makes for a blue haze as they open up to the sun in the early morning.

This photo shows them on the western berm along the entry path. That's the unplanted Boxwood sitting there near the wheelbarrow.

Here they are in the front yard. Mostly on the north side of the front path with some off more toward the road. I am thinking that next year I may just let them grow only on the north side of the path and edge them with a Hosta border (but that may be way too much planning for me).

This is the Yellow Branch Dogwood Bush planted in with the Corn Flowers. The bush is reached from a swirl coming in from the road to east side back corner path.

The yellow gauntlet

tall-guantlet-8-w.jpg

You run the gauntlet
Whipped by tall stalks
Dripped on by drops
held then released
from last nights rain
Yellow pollen and water stains
Marks you
if not one with nature
at least one touched by it

Butterfly Bush Planting

July 28, 2006: Three new additions to my yard will be a Butterfly Bush, Boxwood Bush and a Yellow Stem Dogwood Bush. They all will occupy the ends of swirls that come in from paths that are going across the yard at various places.

In this case I know exactly what this plant is: White Bouquet Butterfly Bush (Buddleia davidii 'White Bouquet') because my Dad gave it to me (along with the other two that he rescued - and nursed back to health - from the trash heap at the nursery he works at).

Someday I just may have to buy some plants (but not today:)

Day Lilies are gone

All that I see through my bedroom window on July 22, 2006 are stalks.

See: The way they were when in bloom.

Time to pull them out and rake the undergrowth away.

Took this photo from the patio while I was having breakfast out there before I started pulling out the dead stalks. See: First breakfast and reading. I am reading a sequence of books by A. S. Byatt. The one I am working on here is Babbletower. [Babbletower: Amazon.com)

Note the string up the house? There are Morning Glories growing up that twine (more on that later).

The wheelbarrow is full. If you have looked at other posts you'll get an idea if just how many wheelbarrow loads were needed to get this done. I used the stalks on the paths.

Here is the path opening before and...

The stalks are gone from under my window.

In September the green of the plants are back until the frost comes. Then they sleep until spring.

Remember the first on June 22, 2006?

Here's how I used the stalks...

...on the path into the woods.

An official hello

Now that BlogTheBerkshires.com is officially launched I really need to get caught up. The summer is over and I still am only up to mid-July in my posts and photos. My yard is now (as of today September 19, 2006) moving toward Autumn at a rapid pace. The Tall Daisies are brown and the Corn Flowers are passing too. I'll get caught up soon and show you this in photos too.
