Ice Storm: January 28, 2009

We were shut in all day and waited to the evening to shovel the walk and car park. Joey took these great shots.

Brush fire: January 10, 2009

After we cut and stacked all day we were ready for some relaxation. How about a fire while we're in the hot tub. Sound good?

The snow is falling...

IMG_2577.jpg
Sure I can get this going...

IMG_2586.jpg
Hey...

IMG_2584.jpg
Hey, what's happing to the fire?

IMG_2588.jpg
Next time I'm going to use gasoline!

IMG_2595.jpg

Winter Brush Pile (FIRE)

IMG_2554.jpg
BEFORE: Time to start cutting back the fallen tree.

IMG_2556.jpg
Climbing up...

IMG_2557.jpg
We'll leave the red branched growth. The fens grow in this area in the spring and summer. We will encourage them to spread. The wild grape vines I hope to wire and see if I can harvest some to make wine with.

IMG_2559.jpg
Up in the fallen tree. One more branch (step)...

IMG_2560.jpg
I'll be careful...

IMG_2561.jpg
Let me just step out to get that branch... AGGHHHHH!! LOL

IMG_2562.jpg
More cutting.

IMG_2563.jpg
Success!

IMG_2564.jpg
Piling it up for a fire.

IMG_2566.jpg
Progress.

IMG_2568.jpg
That's done.

IMG_2569.jpg
Hey, beautiful!

IMG_2570.jpg
Brush pile.

Joey piling bush.

IMG_2572.jpg
Let's LIGHT THE BABY!

IMG_2573.jpg
The hot tub is getting ready for tonight in the snow.

IMG_2574.jpg
AFTER: But a lot more yet to be done. Many piles for fires to come and some stove wood as well. We want to clear the whole fallen tree and be able to see into the woods and through them to the rising field beyond.

Brightest Moon

IMG_2542.jpg
Seen from the hot tub. It was amazing. The clouds passing over the moon. They were moving but it the optical illusion was that the moon and stars were moving. A plane flew over and the contrail was a bright line across the sky. Simply beautiful this mix of clouds, stars the bright moon.
